Subject: [OASIS Issue Tracker] Commented: (OFFICE-1610) Editor Note: Section17.529 svg:d

    [ http://tools.oasis-open.org/issues/browse/OFFICE-1610?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=12054#action_12054 ]

Dennis Hamilton commented on OFFICE-1610:
-----------------------------------------

1. A reminder: There is no formal connection between draw:enhanced-path and svg:d, whatever the inspiration for draw:enhanced-path is. It is under an ODF namespace and entirely under the control of the ODF specification. I think we should not muddle the two. Also, the language of earlier versions of ODF that remarked on there being a similarity is no longer present in ODF 1.2. I think it should be kept that way.

2. I notice that the first "Note" in 17.529 is a modification of a declaration in ODF 1.0 section 9.2.6 Path Data subsection. The original statement is that "*Some* implementation may only support[s] a subset of the SVG path specification, for instance ..." Removing "some" is a mistake. Making it a note is also a mistake, perhaps, since the note has no normative power. I suggest removing the passage from ODF 1.2 altogether. It doesn't seem to help anything, as CL remraks. [In the place in ODF 1.2 where we say an implementation need not support any feature, we might benefit all of mankind by saying that omission of support for any feature is implementation-defined.]

3. The second note in 17.529 appears to be related to use of svg:d as an attribute of a specific element. There also appears to be some missing explanation around "exporting" paths (and, I suppose, what happens when a path is present and does not conform to a "connector's geometric path").

4. The third note in 17.529 has no context whatsoever and needs to be tied to something specific.
