Re 1: The default value in ODF 1.1 actually is an error. Formatting properties are inherited from parent styles if they are not present. A default value in the schema breaks this inheritance model.
Re 2: Agreed. I will add ODF 1.1 and ODF 1.0 to the list of affected versions.
Re 3: I'm in favor of the original text. Protection here is really a user interface feature. To say "sections are protected against editing" may be interpreted that the section really cannot be modified. But it can. Only implementations can prevent that. I further think that the terms "edit" and "processor" do not match very well.
