Subject: [OASIS Issue Tracker] Commented: (OFFICE-1556) Editor Note: Section8.3.3 <table:operation>

Eike Rathke commented on OFFICE-1556:

> This does not make sesne to me. OpenDocument 1.0/1.1 defines what
> detective operations are. They clearly talk about displaying or
> hidining.

I just reviewed what ODF 1.1 says, and yes, it talks about displaying or
hiding cells, but that is not what OOo (after which the ODF feature was
modelled) ever implemented, nor does Excel in a similar feature. It was
always about displaying or hiding traces/arrows. I guess the ODF 1.1
wording is/was because the original author of that section wasn't
a native English speaker and nobody caught the error.

> Openoffice might have something else that is called
> detective operations in that program, but this doesn't really matter
> anymore. We can't just go around and change the meaning of things
> already defined in ODF just because OOo chose to implement soemthing
> different.

I'd consider the description in ODF 1.0/1.1 plain wrong then and it needs to
be corrected in an errata.

> Section 8.3.3 <table:operation>
> Ed. Note: The wording "certain relations" seems really vague to me. Granted it is only storing the results of some operation but shouldn't that be defined somewhere?
