Subject: [OASIS Issue Tracker] Commented: (OFFICE-1579) Editor Note: Section17.744 table:use-labels

    [ http://tools.oasis-open.org/issues/browse/OFFICE-1579?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=13196#action_13196 ]

Eike Rathke commented on OFFICE-1579:
-------------------------------------

I think the text can stay as it is. In detail:

> First, confuses issue of applying labels with the type of labels to be applied.

IMHO it doesn't. The mathematical function is applied to data of columns or rows of different ranges. For example, for row labels if table:use-labels="true" the data for each resulting column is gathered from columns where rows are labeled equally within each range. If table:use-labels="false", the data is gathered from columns and rows that have the same relative offset within each range.

> Second, states are: none, both columns and rows, columns or rows. Only is the last case are mathematical functions "...applied to cells with equally labeled rows or columns rather than to cells with the same relative cell address."

No, in all cases but 'none'.

> That seems to be addressing a state of the cells *prior to* the application of the mathematical function.

Yes. Anyway, the cells of the source range are not changed (if table:source-cell-range-addresses and the result range starting at table:target-cell-address do not overlap, that is). There is no state prior to or after the application of the function.

> So, is this "consolidation" actually the application of these functions to designated ranges of cells?

Yes, but after the data of equally positioned columns/rows respectively equally labeled columns/rows has been gathered, and identical data been combined.

Maybe an example helps clarifying:

Data in A1:B6

aaa bbb
q 1
w 2
e 3
r 4
t 5

Data in D7:E12

aaa bbb
q 11
w 22
a 33
s 44
z 55

Consolidation by relative offset ('none') and function Sum:

        12
        24
        36
        48
        60

Consolidation by row labels and function Sum:

aaa
q 12
w 24
e 3
r 4
t 5
a 33
s 44
z 55

Consolidation by column labels and function Sum:

aaa bbb
        12
        24
        36
        48
        60

> Ed. Note I think this attribute is seriously wrong but without a better definition of consolidation I don't know how to suggest fixing it.
