Subject: ODF 1.0 Approved Errata 02 -- Next Steps

As we know, the JTC1/SC34 Ad Hoc 3 on ODF maintenance will be meeting on
September 15th and 16th in Seattle. One of the topics on the agenda will
undoubtedly be the status of the SC34-submitted defect reports. We've
processed the first one, and we can certainly have a nice discussion with
them on why it has been gathering dust since last November, but we'll also
need to account for their 2nd defect report, which we are still
processing, and where we are on the critical path. I'd like to have a
good news for them on that front.

JTC1 rules require that documents brought up in a meeting need to be
submitted to NB's 30 days in advance. So that means we would need to have
any submission ready by August 15th.

OASIS rules require for Approved Errata require us to have two votes and a
15-day public review. So at minimum, once we have the text completed, it
would require:

Week one to approved a Committee Draft and request a public review
Some delay for public review to be announced
Two weeks public review
Then vote to make the Approved Errata

So realistically, this is a 5-6 week minimum turnaround and we won't make
it in time for the Ad Hoc meeting agenda cut-off date. However, I think
it is a reasonable goal to have the committee draft of the Errata ready in
time to start the public review before August 15th. That way we can
submit the draft to SC34 and solicit comments. For this to happen, we
would need the committee draft ready to approve by our August 10th
meeting. Preferably, even a week prior, to give us some margin of error,
with vacations and such.

Patrick, Dennis, Michael, Andreas and I have been meeting on the side to
review the submitted defects, and such responses as we have are posted in
JIRA. You can see what resolutions we are recommending here:
http://tools.oasis-open.org/issues/secure/IssueNavigator.jspa?mode=hide&requestId=10006

So what do we think? Is this a worthwhile goal? And Patrick, from your
perspective, is this a reasonable goal, e.g., are you able to put
sufficient time on this between now and August 10th?

Regards,

-Rob
