Subject: [OASIS Issue Tracker] Commented: (OFFICE-1995) Add<table:named-expressions> to <table:table>

    [ http://tools.oasis-open.org/issues/browse/OFFICE-1995?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=14864#action_14864 ]

Dennis Hamilton commented on OFFICE-1995:
-----------------------------------------

This raises a dependence on the hosting document model and how these things are bridged between the OpenFormula specification and the hosting document (and the hosting implementation, which is not required to support all features of the document structure).

I am very keen to see OpenFormula abstracted enough from the hosting application so that different document specifications could host OpenFormula appropriately.

I also think that the ways that ODF implementations support the features of ODF will have an impact on what works in a formula and what doesn't (e.g., if there is no support for named expressions in a given ODF 1.2 consumer, then that would be reflected in that implementations specification of its hosting, if any, for OpenFormula.

This is a caveat that should be considered more generally, including the desirable addition of an additional level of abstraction where it facilitates cases like this.

> Apparently, maybe during the transition to the wiki, we lost a proposal made by David Wheeler to allow the <table:named-expressions> element also in the <table:table> element to be able to store sheet-local named ranges and expressions.

> The current OpenFormula draft in section "5.11 Named Expressions" defines a syntax that provides sheet-local named expressions.
