I understand why the EASTERSUNDAY() function can be useful; it's impractically difficult to compute Easter Sunday given existing functions.  I don't want to see 300 new functions, each named for every religious or secular holiday, because that would become unwieldy... but 1 or a few functions to handle common cases makes sense to me.

If we add EASTERSUNDAY(), I think we need to clearly state that the algorithm used (at least for the default) presumes the *ISO* calendar.  The (complicated) Easter algorithm hasn't changed since the days of the Roman Empire, but it turns out that *some* Eastern Orthodox churches continue to use the Julian calendar, and NOT the ISO/Gregorian calendar for religious purposes.  When you use a different calendar you end up with a different date.

We could even add an optional second parameter that lets you selects between the ISO and the Julian calendars (those are the only 2 that matter for EASTERSUNDAY), .  This is not intended to be a snub to those who are followers of the Eastern Orthodox tradition who use the Julian calendar, it's just that you have to have SOMETHING as the default, and selecting the ISO calendar as the default is, I think, the easiest decision to defend to a standards body.  Unfortunately, I don't know of any existing implementation which implements such a parameter (which is another argument for using the ISO calendar as the default).
