Subject: [OASIS Issue Tracker] Commented: (OFFICE-2326) Treat all typesequally, i.e., no pseudotypes

    [ http://tools.oasis-open.org/issues/browse/OFFICE-2326?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=17823#action_17823 ]

Dennis Hamilton commented on OFFICE-2326:
-----------------------------------------

I think that is an useful point in David's comment. There are clearly ways needed to signify when there is a common type restriction with regard to what a function works on (Integer is one that has a definition as a conversion, Precise Integer is a property that a restriction has that by its nature is not achievable as an automatic/implicit conversion of course).

I agree that it would be good to have these conditions on parameters be expressed in a prominent way and also well-defined elsewhere.

I am not sure subtype works all of the time.

While we're chatting about this, I wonder whether it is appropriate to speak of Error Value as a subtype of Number type, or is it that there is an understood union? Also, we need to free ourselves from notions about what cells hold versus what an OpenFormula evaluator sees and what it delivers, while coping with a reference delivering an Error Value from the hosting specification implementation. Just sayin' ...

> We currently have types and pseudotypes. The latter does not appear to serve any meaningful role.
