1. HOST-REFERENCE-REVOLVER(Reference) strikes me as a good start.  There is more involved for this, I think.  For example, how some references are resolved depends on context of the formula (not sure how the evaluator known that, but it may need to be played back to the host as part of this, and there is some sticky business around array situations.  E.g., =SUM([A1:J10]*[Z10:Q1]) vs =MDETERM([A1:J10]*[Z10:Q1]) vs =[A1:J10]*[Z10:Q1].
