Gnumeric supports at least three distinct form:value-range type controls: scroll bars, sliders and spin buttons. So dropping the form:control-implementation would at a minimum require additional types. 

And in any case, for  form:generic-control we should clearly retain form:control-implementation to allow implementations to introduce additional control types. 

Of course ther is an argument to be made that the form:control-implementation is useful in connection with other controls if I for example have two distinct types of check boxes, it would be nice to advertise that they are in fact checkboxes and only distinguish them by implementation so that other consumers can display that control at all.
