Oliver-Rainer Wittmann updated OFFICE-2796:
-------------------------------------------

Summary: NEEDS-DISCUSSION: 5.5.4 text:deletion - second item in list: "If the change mark is inside a heading, proceed as above, except adapt the end tags to match their new counterparts." ? (was: 5.5.4 text:deletion - second item in list: "If the change mark is inside a heading, proceed as above, except adapt the end tags to match their new counterparts." ?)

I honor Dennis' analysis and in most points I agree.
In my honest opinion Dennis' explanations about how deletions can be constructed and what kind of deletion are "valid" would be an improvement to the ODF specification, but they do not cover all possible cases. I also think that implementers creating such deletions in ODF document are experts in the their area of editing/changing office documents and know what is possible and what is valid, especially regarding their implementation.

My given proposal is a small improvement compared to the current specification text and it covers more use cases, especially the one described in OFFICE-2621.
My preference is that my proposal is enough for ODF 1.2 to solve this issue and OFFICE-2621. It is not the best we can do, but we already agreed that we want to rework this area - see OFFICE-3312. Thus, I think it does not make sense to invest more here in order to throw it away in the future.

I vote for applying the given proposal for ODF 1.2

> 5.5.4 text:deletion - second item in list: "If the change mark is inside a heading, proceed as above, except adapt the end tags to match their new counterparts." ?
> The preceding paragraph says:
> "If the change mark is inside a paragraph, insert the text content of the <text:deletion> element as if the beginning <text:p> and final </text:p> tags were missing."
> Does this mean:
> "If the change mark is inside a heading, insert the text content of the <text:deletion> element as if the beginning <text:p> and final </text:p> tags were missing."
> ? Since deleted text is save in <text:p></text:p>, shouldn't it simply be placed back in the <text:h></text:h> element?
