Subject: [OASIS Issue Tracker] Updated: (OFFICE-2872) NEEDS-DISCUSSION 20.24chart:interpolation - definitions of b-spline and cubic-spine seeminsufficient

Andreas Guelzow updated OFFICE-2872:
-------------------------------------

    Proposal:
An improved but still incomplete proposal is attached to email
http://www.oasis-open.org/apps/org/workgroup/office/email/archives/201009/msg00309.html

  was:
Suggested definition of the possible values for the chart:interpolation attribute (20.24):

(bullet) b-spline - B-Splines. <DEFINITION STILL MISSING>

(bullet) cubic-spline - Cubic Splines. An interpolation by cubic splines is constructed by inserting a third degree polynomial between any two consecutive data points such that:
(a) the first derivatives of any two polynomials connecting at a data point are equal at that point,
(b) the second derivatives of those polynomials are equal at that point,
(c) the second derivative of the first polynomial at the first data point is zero, and
(d) the second derivative of the last polynomial at the last data point is zero.
When this interpolation curve has been established, equidistant (by parametrization) auxiliary points are inserted on the polynomials. The number of inserted auxiliary points between every pair of data points is specified by the value of the chart:spline-resolution attribute (20.49). Finally, the interpolation line is drawn as a sequence of straight line segments connecting consecutive data and auxiliary points.

(bullet) none - Straight lines. Consecutive data points are connected by straight line segments.

> 20.24 chart:interpolation - definitions of b-spline and cubic-spine seem insufficient
> Read in full:
> "b-spline - B-Splines. The chart:spline-order attribute specifies the order of the polynomials used for calculation. 20.48 The chart:spline-resolution attribute specifies the number of interpolated points between two data points. 20.49
> cubic-spline - Cubic Splines. The chart:spline-resolution attribute specifies the number of interpolated points between two data points. 20.49"
> Ok as far as it goes but doesn't tell me anything about b-spline and cubic-spine.
> In fact, simply repeats information already present elsewhere.
> Suggest deleting the definitions as written and supplying definitions for these attributes.
> There is an implied statement of polynomials somewhere but it isn't clear where from this entry.
