Subject: [OASIS Issue Tracker] Updated: (OFFICE-2603) Add (non-normative ?)reference to IEEE 754 and 854

Robert Weir updated OFFICE-2603:
---------------------------------

    Proposal:
Add the following two informative references:

[IEEE 754] 754-1985 IEEE Standard for Binary Floating-Point Arithmetic, IEEE (1985)
[IEEE 854] 854-1987 Standard for Radix-Independent Floating-Point Arithmetic, IEEE (1987)

[Rob's note: these standards are better known by their numbers rather than their titles, so that is why I'm suggesting the short names as above]

In section 3.6, change:

"In practice, applications tend to use at least one IEEE 754-1985 binary floating-point"

to

"In practice, applications tend to use at least one [IEEE 754] binary floating-point"

and change:

"When IEEE 754 representations are used"

to

"When [IEEE 754] representations are used"

and change:

"Applications may use IEEE 854-1987"

to

"Applications may use [IEEE 854]"

Finally, in section 4.3.1, change:

"Many evaluators implement numbers as 64-bit IEEE floating point values"

to

"Many evaluators implement numbers as 64-bit [IEEE 754] floating point values"

was:Add IEEE 754-1985 and IEEE 854-1987 to the Non-normative references

Note there is a new edition of IEEE 754, from 2008. Should we reference that instead?

> 2.6 Numerical methods mentions IEEE 754-1985 and IEEE 854-1987.
> Perhaps they should be added as (non normative ?) references in 1.5
