Subject: [OASIS Issue Tracker] Commented: (OFFICE-3412) NEEDS-DISCUSSION13.5.24 <form:value-range> does not allow a "continuous" number range

    [ http://tools.oasis-open.org/issues/browse/OFFICE-3412?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=21439#action_21439 ]

Patrick Durusau commented on OFFICE-3412:
-----------------------------------------

OK, I see that now.

I suspect what is happening is that the schema says string value because string is the "parent" of all other data types.

That is we can say "string" in the schema and then if we announce that in <form:date> the value must be a date, then since "date" is a sub-part of string, we don't have to create a separate form:min/max-size for each of those elements. Just change its value for each one.

Michael would have to give the definitive answer but that looks like what is happening. It is confusing.

> Currently 13.5.24 states:
> "The <form:value-range> element defines a control which allows the user to select a value from a continuous number range."
> Since <form:value-range> has a form:step-size attribute with a default value of 1 and values that are positiveInteger this is anything but a "continuous" number range.
> In fact there is no real justification why the form:step-size and form:page-step-size attributes could not allow arbitrary positive numbers. Note that form:min-size and form:max-size allow arbitrary doubles.
