Well, I dispute the signature case.  By the time the selection is incorporated in the signature, however it is done, it will have to use either a transform that does it or appeal to an element (or provide some sort of XPath thingie) that brackets the span of elements covered in the signature.   Since this all happens inside the client, or by someone actually consuming the document in a way where a signature can be added, normalizing clip-board formats seems irrelevant.

However, if we want to puzzle over that sort of thing, we should at the existing provisions that suck things in via DDE and via XLINK into text:section, for example.

I actually find our use of ODF-next too casual, since for many things, like this one and other more obvious ones, it is not clear what is going to change that it can be handled then as opposed to closed now, especially if we let the existing provision continue in the wild in ODF 1.2.  I hate to think that someone with an ODF-next clipboard is going to score us on this kind of thing. 

Agreed, this one is not like that, so I unassign it from myself since I am not signing up for ODF-next issues today.
