Subject: [OASIS Issue Tracker] Commented: (OFFICE-3452) ODF 1.2 CD05 Part 2- Syntax for Named Range not Identified

    [ http://tools.oasis-open.org/issues/browse/OFFICE-3452?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=21863#action_21863 ]

Robert Weir commented on OFFICE-3452:
--------------------------------------

I see only 7 instances of "named range" or "named ranges" in CD 05.

It is used once in section 3.2:

"When a formula is computed, it is notionally provided a "context" as input. The context may include formula variables (including named ranges, document variables, fields, and so on), and/or additional function definitions that the formula can call."

In that case I'm not sure we define "document variables" or "fields' either. But this is all just background info. No provisions are given here.

The other 6 occurrences are in the last two paragraphs of section 4.11.8 "Database" . I wonder if these can simply be deleted?

> Components: OpenFormula, Part 2 (Formulas)
> Affects Versions: ODF 1.2 CD 05

> In ODF 1.2 CD05 Part 2, the term "named range" is used in many places.
> We believe, in conjunction with OFFICE-3446, that this is a job for HOST-REFERENCE-RESOLVER.
> However, there is nowhere in the description of OpenFormula expressions where any construct is identified as being a mention of a named range.
> Is this intended to be a case of named-expression? This may create limitations on where a named range can be referenced. It would seem that a named-range reference could be anywhere that a Reference can be.
> This needs to be resolved explicitly.
