After seeing my off-hand suggestion and your somewhat longer explanation, ;-), I had to puzzle over the text a bit. That may have just been fatigue but would the following be better:

Note: Paragraphs may be selected for inclusion in a table of contents based on their styles. Selection is based on a paragraph's style matching a style specified by the <text:index-source-styles> child element of a <text:index-table-of-content> child element of a <text:table-of-content> element, when the text:use-index-source-styles attribute of the child <text:index-source-styles> element has the value true.
