Subject: [OASIS Issue Tracker] Commented: (OFFICE-3319) ODF 1.2 Part 1Section 9.9 Offers No Control over the Showing of Tracked Changes

    [ http://tools.oasis-open.org/issues/browse/OFFICE-3319?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=22372#action_22372 ]

Michael Brauer commented on OFFICE-3319:
----------------------------------------

I agree to Eike's suggestion. Why? The problem is that it is hard to define what it means to show changes. Does it mean that some bars are shown that provide a hint? Or is the original text shown? Or both? What happens with the changed text? Is it also displayed?

There are a lot of ways how one could "show" changes, so that a single boolean attribute probably will not be sufficient. Furthermore, the question how changes are "shown" is something where the vendor's user experience experts have a strong opinion on. It is part of the user interface, may change over time, and different experts may have different opinions on that. For that reason, it is also not possible to list all options that one may have as attribute values.

> The attribute table:track-changes (with default value "false" starting with ODF 1.0) is used to indicate whether changes were being tracked when the document was produced and whether that is the initial setting for a consumer that supports change tracking.
> Although it is clear that the acceptance and rejection of changes and the means by which change tracking is initiated and suspended is a matter for an OpenDocument processor to deal with, it seems strange that the recommendation to show tracked changes is also not an interoperably-defined attribute of the <table:tracked-changes> element.
> [Consideration for <text:tracked-changes> will be addressed in a separate issue.]
