Subject: [OASIS Issue Tracker] Commented: (OFFICE-3482) "Text characterdata"OpenDocument-v1.2-cd05-part1-editor-revision_04.odt

    [ http://tools.oasis-open.org/issues/browse/OFFICE-3482?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=22924#action_22924 ]

Dennis Hamilton commented on OFFICE-3482:
-----------------------------------------

I did my homework.

As I thought, "mixed content" is not a term that applies to the RNG Schema. (The term refers to DTDs, in the XML 1.0 specification, as I recall.)

I do see that in the defintion for <text:p> in section 5.1.1, the grey box with the generated information about dependencies, there is the line
"""
The <text:p> element has mixed content.
"""

However, that has been derived in some manner or introduced as part of the derivation of the greyed material. There is no such technical distinction in the RNG schema.

What there is in the schema for <text:p> is the use of the <text> schema pattern in the definition of the schema pattern paragraph-content.

I would say that textual content (not to be confused with the text-content schema pattern) of an element is anything that satisfies a <text> and/or <data> pattern in the schema for the element, in sequence with the textual content contributed by any child elements of the element instance.

> Part 1, section 6.1.1 -- We say "Text character data contained...". Does this mean anything different than "character data", which is the term we use elsewhere?
> In general, I'm not getting the distinction between "character data", "character content", "text content" and "text character data".
> The XML term is "character data" defined as: "All text that is not markup constitutes the character data of the document".
