Andreas: Simplifies processing by making it "standard" XML processing. Not special processing of white space for ODF.
Dennis: Why would we need an alternate way to specify non-collapse of white space? I am just missing the reason for that.
The "interoperability" we have is between ODF applications. Not XML based application processing.
Conformance to ODF 1.3, assuming new rules, is another example of "interoperability," except in that case, with standard XML processing.
Personally I would remove the custom whitespace rules and collapse all white space. White space isn't how you format text. You format text with styles. (I realize that position isn't going to prevail but just for the record.)
When you say: "soft line break" do you mean in a set of white spaces???
