2. STATUS OF ACTION ITEMS
#0015 Template Scenarios. No progress. There was a discussion about templates on the ODF TC list, with thread at
<http://lists.oasis-open.org/archives/office/201107/msg00025.html>
#0041 Battery of ODF 1.2 Assessment Documents. There are accumulating cases. Dennis
mentioned that he had begun to call some tests for "resiliency" in how certain ODF 1.2 provisions work up-down-level and with discretionary variations. Rob considered that those would be a portion of the battery, but the parts concerned with conformance would cover more than that.

3. FEEDBACK FROM THE BERLIN PLUGFEST, <http://www.odfplugfest.de>

Rob provided an overview of the event: 14-15 July in Berlin, sponsored by two German government ministries.

Day 1 had about 30 developers and did not get through all of the interop tests that were available. There was some work around saving RDF in documents. There were some edge cases with footnotes and layout but the documents might not be on the Plugfest site.

Day 2 consisted of the public sessions, policy-oriented presentations, and a demonstration of the web-based implementation, which has been coming along.

3.1 Conditional Formatting

The support for conditional formatting has some interoperability issues with regard to the number of conditional selections that can be entered. When a producers does not preserve all of the conditions, there are round-trip issues. The ODF specification does not limit the number of conditions but, e.g., OpenOffice.org only allows three.

3.2 Spreadsheet <table:table-rows> and <table:table-columns>.

Andreas reported that they attempted to use these groupings across all rows and columns of a sheet, not just for heading rows/columns. They discovered that there are implementations where this causes the parts covered by additional table-rows and table-columns elements to disappear in some consumers. The ODF specification allows arbitrary use of these groupings, with no indication of what they might be for.

This appears to be something worthy of an advisory.

3.3 Bubble Chart <chart:categories>

Andreas reported that they had been unsuccessful using <chart:categories> with bubble charts, although the schema allows it.

This appears to be something worthy of an advisory as well

3.4 Protection-Key Edge Cases

Dennis had started to identify some protection-key edge cases to help determine whether any down-level implementations break when the ODF 1.2 additions occur and when the ODF 1.2-allowed discretionary variability is also exercised.

The initial tests are at
<http://tools.oasis-open.org/version-control/svn/oic/TestSuite/trunk/odf12/ProtectionKeyResilience/>.

3.5 Other Scenarios

3.5.1 ODF Toolkit Experience producing digital signatures and encryption support ran into problems with the built-in crypto API of Java. The API doesn't have what's needed to implement the encryption specified in ODF. The toolkit team is making an independent implementation for testing, etc.

3.5.2 XAdES Breakage Discovery. Bart reported on an effort to introduce digital signatures with XAdES features that uncovered some problems with how namespaces are not properly handled in some ODF packages. Apparently, some namespace handling is not with a namespace-aware XML parser, so the qualified and unqualified names are hard-wired.
This is an issue that needs to be isolated more completely. Some resiliency tests around [xml-names] handling, or lack thereof, would be easy to provide. Dennis has offered to have something up about that before our next meeting.

3.5.3 Annotation Printing. There is also an issue about where annotations should be printed when they are printed. The ODF specification is silent on the topic.

4. ROUND TABLE

4.1 The next Plugfest is in Gouda, the Netherlands, on 17-18 November. For April 2012, Microsoft has offered to host one in Brussels.

4.2 The ODF 1.2 Candidate OASIS Standard 60-day public review will continue to August 22. We are in the home stretch for a subsequent ballot to approve CS01 as the OASIS ODF 1.2 Standard.

4.3 ODF 1.3 issues and enhancements and proposed test documents are coming out of the change-tracking discussion.

4.2 There's a Budapest International Symposium on the Value of ODF and Open Standards, June 28. Organizers include EuroOffice, Oracle Hungary, Budapest U of Tech and Economics, others.

5. FUTURE MEETING PLANNING
There is no meeting scheduled for August 10.

The next meeting will be August 24.

Respectfully submitted,

Dennis E. Hamilton, OIC TC Secretary
