Mark,
Good stuff.
I'm a little surprised at the emphasis
on JEE in the title and the text. Of course SCA has a relationship
with JEE and JEE is important for the
products of the contributors on the
panel, but I wonder whether the title might be better written as "Open
Standards for SOA and Java" to
indicate that it is not just about JEE.
- or even "Open Standard for SOA including Java" to emphasise
that Java is just one part and that
technologies like BPEL have a place
too....
Yours, Mike.

My AI from last week was to come up with a proposed abstract
for JavaOne that would allow us to continue to evangelize about it, but
not repeat what was done at last years JavaOne. Here's my first draft.
The aim is to try to give each of the panelists a chance to say something
about SCA (maybe each panelist concentrating on one specific technical
committee within OpenCSA) whilst at the same time giving scope to show
how things have evolved in a year and where they are continuing to evolve.
From feedback I've had over the past few months, I think it would be good
if we could use this session to say more about the relationships we're
forming with other standards activities, such as OSGi, as well as getting
end-user presence on the panel.
I need to make it clear that this is NOT a JBI versus
SCA debating panel: if someone on the panel wants to call out JBI specifically
when making a presentation, then that should be encouraged as long as it
is in line with the overall thrust of the panel session.

using SOA with SCA
- a discussion with panellists from the major contributors to the SCA specifications
in OASIS
Title: OpenCSA: Open Standards for JEE and SOA
Abstract: In 2007 industry leaders including IBM, SAP,
Oracle, BEA, Sun Microsystems and Red Hat took the SCA specifications to
OASIS and formed a number of technical committees under the OpenCSA banner,
to drive them towards standards. There have been, and continue to be, many
questions about SCA and its relationship to other standards such as WS-*,
JBI, OSGi and JEE. The purpose of this panel session is to try to answer
these questions and provide insight into what has changed with SCA since
the first release, where the various OpenCSA specifications are heading
and what affect this will have on JEE-based SOA development in the future.
In this panel session we shall discuss the evolution of SCA since it started
the standards process and touch on the current products (commercial and
open source) that are tracking those changes. Because the panel will consist
of end-users of SCA as well as members of the various technical committees,
there will be an opportunity for feedback on how well the existing SCA
implementations address their requirements and where necessary, improvements
can still be made. Furthermore, the panelists will look at how OpenCSA
work is influencing and influenced by other standards that you may be using
today, or considering using, for building enterprise SOA deployments.
The panel session shall cover the following topics:
- updates on SCA specifications since they entered OASIS
- end-user feedback on deployments based on SCA
- relationship with other standards efforts
- future developments around the specifications and implementations
There will be opportunity for audience participation.
Mark.
P.S. We can discuss panel members as soon as we have an
abstract.
