And from the Concise OED:
deprecate // v.tr.
1 express disapproval of or a wish against
(a plan, proceeding, purpose, etc.); deplore; plead earnestly against
(deprecate hasty action).
2 a express disapproval of (a person);
reprove. b = depreciate 2.
3 archaic pray against.
Given that “deprecation” is standard
software term to indicate obsolescence, I quite like the definition:
1. Pray against (evil); try to avert by prayer.

Hi Sean
I wondered whether your requirement
"11. To
record any user classifications against the definition"
covered the case where BAE (MOD or
whoever) want to state in the data exchange
agreement of a contract that a
particular set of classes in an ontology are
mandatory. In other words an
ontology can be filtered to only provided the set
of classes that are in the
contract.
If I have understood the
requirement correctly I would say that this is a high
priority requirement.
I think
that
"6. To
identify the status of the definition (e.g. in-work, checked,
approved), together with the
approval authority and approval date."
needs to include indicating that a
class is obsolete or deprecated and that a
when deprecating a class, a mapping
to the replacement class I required.
"2.
To identify any IPR against the definition."
Once you have defined a class in an
OWL file and published that OWL file, wont
the IPR go with the OWL file
(ontology) rather than the individual class?
Also, if you have brought in a
class from a source, wont the source define the
IPR?
Regards
Rob
