Subject: RE: [plcs-dex] DEX Terminology

Title: Message

Actually, the formal title of the AP (the one you’d put in a Bibliography or normative reference is):

ISO/DIS 10303-239:2004 Product data representation and exchange: Application protocol: Product life cycle support

Isn’t the AP, not the modules, what you want to reference?

Cheers,

David

Hi John,

Stepmod title =

ISO/TS 10303-439:2004 AP239 product life cycle support - therefore this should be the FULL title that the OASIS PLCS TC DEXs should use.

best regards

Gordon

My thoughts:

1. It is important that OASIS DEXs use ISO products, not the other way round.

2.  The correct title of the AP239  is "ISO/DIS 10303-239:2004 Application protocol: Product life cycle support".  The first time this is used in the DEX,  it should be in full.  Thereafter the abbreviation AP239 could be used instead.

3.  I think we should avoid the initials "PLCS" in formal standards - it is used to convey too many (slightly) different things, including the totality of all we have done.

Subject: [plcs-dex] DEX Terminology

Hi Tim ,

In response to your query re the use of OASIS terminology in the DEXs - lets ask the question........................

Ladies and Gents,

Whilst doing a business review of DEX 1 I have changed the introduction words from "This part of ISO 10303 AP239 PLCS specifies the Data Exchange Set (DEX) 1 - Product Breakdown for support " to "This Data Exchange Set (DEX) 1 - Product Breakdown for support - utilizes ISO 10303 AP239 PLCS ".

This could be again rewritten to be truly specific viz ''This OASIS PLCS Technical Committee Data EXchange Set (DEX) 1 - Product breakdown for support - utilizes ISO 10303 - 439 AP239 PLCS''.

Similar words were suggested for the DEX 8 intro and TomH has introduced them.

I do think that the remainder of the DEX intros require standardizing to reflect a OASIS package of work.

Also there is a lack of consistency within the DEXs sometimes referring to PLCS or AP239 or BOTH.

Thoughts please.

regards

Gordon
