Subject: RE: [plcs-dex] Dex4 - Dex 3 Interface

Title: Dex4 - Dex 3 Interface
Agree mostly. Referencing task is always a reference to a task_method_version.

However, if there is a task specification which is unknown to the recipient (and how is this known?) it would be better to send the required task specifications via DEX 3 before sending the DEX 4. Conversely, if a recipient of a DEX 4 is missing a referenced task specification, they could request it (and get a DEX 3 back).

Subject: [plcs-dex] Dex4 - Dex 3 Interface

Dear All,

Having looked through Dex 4 - Work Package Definition and Dex 3 - Task Set, I conclude that the interface hinges around the relationship between scheme_entry (Dex4) and a Task_method_version (Dex3). This relationship is provided by an activity_method_realization.

Each work package item (activity) has a scheme_entry which is defined for a specific version (scheme_version) of a Work package (scheme).

Hence there is a path between the work item (activity), the scheme of work (scheme_entry) and the task_method_version which realizes the activity.

The minimal Dex 4 exchange which assumes that a task library has been populated with a set of tasks from Dex 3, will therefore, need to (uniquely) identify the relevant task_method_version to be linked to the scheme_entry via the activity_method_realization relationship.

A Dex4 exchange that assumes there is no task library will have to include the entire task specification for each activity (work package item).

Please let me know if this is contrary to any other views or opinions.

Regards,
Tim
