The replies to my query, received to date, confirm my expectations, but do not answer my original question.

 

....just a few thoughts...

 

Are we expecting any potential MoD contractor, reading a contracts bulletin entry that includes this new contract condition, to go to a site as complex as dexlib and find his way around in order to understand what it is he will be expected to do? Does OASIS have any rules on publication with which we have to comply? Have we a budget in our plan for any effort that may be required to reformat stuff from dexlib to meet publication requirements?

Once the DEX are adopted as OASIS Committee Drafts, they will be publicly available, free-of-charge on the OASIS website.

 

The issue of reference data will be addressed during the meeting in Oslo - it should be freely available as a Web resource.

I am currently working with the UK MoD to determine how they will contract for Product information using STEP. Before our ideas can go much farther, however, we need to know how potential contractors will be able to access the DEXs in order for them to understand what the MoD is asking them to do.

It is not clear from the Oslo TC Mtg agenda whether this point is to be specifically addressed - but it needs to be if we are to prevent PLCS from continuing as one of the world's best kept secrets.....
