Let's look at the big picture

Hello All,

A few of you have asked me what resource requirements should be planned
for in terms of level of effort, travel, etc for OASIS/ebXML Registry
Technical Committee participation.  In trying to answer your
questions it occurred to me that perhaps we need a better sense of scope
and direction regarding our efforts.   I think the group will
benefit from having a sense of what we want to accomplish in the coming
year, beyond the usual answer of 'finalize Version 2.0 of the
specifications.'  What do we want to accomplish with these
specifications?

My request (or challenge) to each of you:  Given that we have
all read the RIM and the RS and hopefully understand the functionality
addressed, please email me (or the email list if you prefer) your
priority issues/suggestions/additions that you would like to see
addressed by the specification in the coming months.   The
intent here is not to exclude any ideas; rather, the intent is to gather
our many ideas that would help improve the specifications and their
usefulness in registry definitions and interoperability.  Your list
does not have to be all-inclusive; this request is not meant to close the
door on opportunities to later propose something.   Your
submission does not have to be in the form of a formal proposal with a
proposed solution; a paragraph or two describing the use case or the
issue will do.   We will need to look at new features, examine
the necessary functionality requirements from the other ebXML
committees,  fix current inconsistencies or ambiguities and solve
some errors in the specification.    

After I have received all of the ideas, I will compile them into a
list.  The group will then analyze them and determine an appropriate
ordering.  We can then, as a group, tackle them.   
(Once this list is compiled, we will add to it as we learn and uncover
additional areas to explore.)  

I'd like to move on this fairly quickly and have something ready to
discuss at our conference call on Thursday, July 12.  Any ideas sent
by July 9th can be discussed during the July 12 conference call.

On a different note: I've been updating our OASIS/ebXML Registry TC
webpages.  Please take a look at them.  Any comments or good
ideas on improving them would be appreciated.
