Kathryn,

I think you've done an excellent job in conveying the business purpose
and details and couching this in terms press folk can relate to.

Maybe right at the end as a technical Note, you may want to add 
a link to the actual spec's, and also mention 
some technical enhancements - simple itemized list, improved this,
better that, new this,

But right now I'd say you have it right about where it should be already
for a press release.
