Security Guidelines for using WebEx Meeting Center
For non-Boeing users

A.  General security features

The Boeing -WebEx Meeting Center service provides the following security features:

  • Transmissions between your PC and the WebEx servers are encrypted using SSL encryption.  Your browser should be configured for 128-bit encryption to meet Boeing security requirements.
  • Meetings scheduled on the Boeing-WebEx site are unlisted and cannot be viewed by others on the Internet.
  • A 9-digit meeting number and an 8-character password is required to join a meeting.
  • The host can lock a meeting to prevent people from joining.  The host can also eject participants if needed.
  • No meeting data is permanently stored on the WebEx system.
  • WebEx personnel cannot monitor meetings in progress.

B.   Security guidelines for using the Boeing-WebEx service

1.  Sharing data

After extensive reviews, the Boeing Computing Security and Export Compliance groups have approved the Boeing-WebEx Meeting Center service for sharing sensitive and non-sensitive information, per these guidelines:

  • The Boeing-WebEx Meeting Center service can be used to share sensitive and non-sensitive Boeing information.  This includes the following categories:
    • Boeing Proprietary
    • Boeing Limited
    • Export Controlled (ITAR/EAR)
    • Third-Party Proprietary
    • Competition Sensitive
    • Business and Technical
    • Non-sensitive
  • Do not share classified information on this service. See the appropriate documentation for  procedures on the proper handling of classified information.
  • Non-Boeing meeting participants should follow their company's computing security guidelines when sharing sensitive information during the meeting.

2.  Browser encryption requirements

The encryption level of your browser determines the encryption level of your connection to the WebEx meeting.
  • All participant's browsers must be configured for 128-bit encryption.
  • See the Setup your PC document to determine if you need to upgrade your browser.

3.  Restriction on using remote control and file transfer capability

To meet Boeing Computing Security requirements, two conferencing features have been disabled on the Boeing-WebEx site:

  • You cannot take remote control of another user's application.  This does not affect your ability to share applications with others.
  • You cannot transfer files between users.  If you need to transfer files with Boeing, then you should use an approved Boeing file transfer service, such as the Boeing Partners Network.  Your Boeing meeting host can provide more information.

4.  Protecting meeting numbers and passwords

The Boeing meeting host will send you the meeting number and password for the WebEx meeting:

  • The meeting number and password is confidential information.  Protect the meeting number and password so others (non-attendees) will not learn this information.
  • If you place the meeting number and password on your electronic (e.g., Outlook) calendar, then select the Private setting on your calendar.
