Update from Pim on the ISO TC 215 (healthcare) meetings from
early this year:

As an update to the
contacts with ISO TC 215 (healthcare) earlier this year, I met Frans van Bommel
again last week.
The main new item
of interest is a new project called "Document Registry Framework", which intends
to develop an ISO standard based on the IHE XDS profile:
This Techinical
Specification is applicable to focus on presenting further development of
Document Registry Framework for transmitting, storing, and utilizing documents (e.g. CDA, DICOM, etc.) in the
clinical environment based on the ebXML Registry Framework. This document is to
specify the general document registry and associated repository framework by
specialization of ISO 15000 (ebXML registry standards). This project is
proposed by:

Other topics we
discussed seem less relevant to the OASIS ebXML TCs. One is about a
mapping mechanism for embedded references in objects that are moved to another
domain (where the references don't exist). This is similar to XML catalogs. The
other is about a common data type library which includes data types for
terminology, names and addresses, text and content data types, quantity data
types, collection data types, timing data types. I think this has many potential
links with other projects (Core Components, NDRs, CIQ, UnitsML, W3C XSD part 2)
but not really to OASIS TCs.
I will get more
information about other areas, some of which may have more obvious links with
other OASIS ebXML TCs, in particular protocols to interface with Electronic
Health Records (EN 13606-5, "exchange models").
If you have any
questions or comments, please contact me.

Frans,
The members of the ebXML Joint Committee are
compiling a composite of answers to your questions, and will have them to you
before March 1st. Just wanted to let you know we are working on
them!

Dear all,
I am resending you the questions about a possible future for ebXML within
TC215.
There at the moment not enough answers in order to prepare the advice for
the Montreal meeting.
We need your ideas too!!!.
Please take a few minutes and insert some lines in the email with your view
upon the ebXML subject.
Best regards
Frans van Bommel

Subject: ISO TC215 e-Business study;Questionaire Dear all,
Attached you will find the minutes (summary) of the ISO TC215 ebXML
orientation meeting hosted by HL7 in San Diego.
Sorry for sending it later as promished during the meeting. At the end of
the document references are made to more information about the MoU, ebXML, OASIS
and HL7.
The next step will be the preparation of the advice for TC meeting in
Montreal (29 March 2007). We have prepared a few questions in order to get a
better view upon a possible role of TC215 in the e-Business process. Based upon
the already available results of the study and the answers of all the experts
Dr.Kwak and Mr van Bommel will introduce a proposal for the
future relationship between TC215 and ebXML.
Questions:
1. Which sector and/or group do you represent?
(Healthcare, Business, ICT, Standardisation, ........)
2. What do you think can be the benefit of using ebXML
for TC215 and or HL7?
3. Which parts of ebXML are of most interest for
TC215
4. Which areas of the healthcare domain can use ebXML as
it is (Patient records, reimbursement, .........)
5. Is there a need for TC215 to support the ebXML
development process in common (not only Healthcare)?
6. Organisational viewpoint: How can we work together in
the future with ISO, OASIS, UN/cefact and others for e-Business (New liasons,
participation in other groups, a new WG or task Force within TC215,
......)?
7. If a new TC215 WG is proposed, what should be the
main target of this group.
Note that for this purpose we don't need to much technical details but
we prefer only short opinions (if needed with references to other
documents with more information).
Your assistance will be greatly appreciated.
Please take a short time to fill in the questions of this email and
return them to me before 1 March 2007.
Best regards
Frans van Bommel
