To what extent does this preserve parameterization?

How does it handle xsi:type?

Is this basically just using MSV to turn it into your abstract schema model
and then dumping out the abstract schema model in RELAX NG?

How do you deal with concur in TREX?

Are you effectively doing type assignment (ie associating element patterns
with elements) and then checking constraints based on the assignment? Or
does the assertion affect whether an element is considered to match the
element pattern?

If the former, what constraints are you imposing to enable type-assignment?
