As you've said you're in good company :-)

One of the reasons why I was asking the question is that I would really
like to be able to use the compact syntax for xvif [1] and I am in big
(John would even say ugly) troubles when I need to embed a XSLT
transformation since the syntax doesn't look "natural"...
