Hi
Hal - I don't think I heard that Burton
was already looking to do this in Europe,
but I should have figured that one out.
So,
our marketing group has now contacted both Jim and Phil to work out with Burton
as to which conference might be appropriate if there is sufficient interest
in doing something in Europe.
Our interest was simply to keep the SAML exposure up and we don't care
whose stage it's on... We'll throw our support behind the Burton
event if they want to run it.
Even
if all of the previous vendors can't make it, it may still be desirable
to go with those that can get there.
I
think the timeframe for these events (Sept/Oct) makes it difficult to either
expand the scope to different SAML functionality or to open it up to vendors
that weren't at the previous one. At least I believe that's the case
for us given our schedule pressures, etc.

Hal and Rob,
I had this same discussion this morning
with Phil Schacter from Burton. He is going to think about it and get back
to us (directly or through Jim).
Sun is interested in both and similar to
Entegrity would attend if there was critical mass regardless.
The idea of demonstrating new aspects is
interesting, but the work to do it will be similar to what we did the first
time. Calculating ROI is still a crap shoot.
I'll be curious to see what the rest of
you decide. Will we open up the participation again?
Don;

I
am going to assume that everybody but Jim is on saml-dev, and not copy
the long list of participant emails.
There
was some discussion in SF about doing the European Catalyst, so in some
sense Burton Group made the first offer.
The
general reaction was most people, especially the smaller vendors did not
have the resources to do it again in Europe
and that the expected PR benefits would be much smaller to do the same
thing again. Demonstrating a new aspect of SAML would be another matter.
This
is essentially Entegrity Solutions current position, although I suppose
if the other 11 vendors were going we might rethink it. ;-)

Hi
folks - I was asked whether there'd be any interest in doing an interop
event similar to what we did at Catalyst, but for a European audience.
Specifically, my marketing folks have asked if folks would like to do something
at the upcoming RSA Conference in Paris
October 7-10.
If
so, please pass along a contact and I'll have someone get in touch.
