Hi Morgan,
Why don't you try Shibboleth (http://shibboleth.internet2.edu/) instead of writing your own SSO *and* SAML implementations?
By the way, if you used OpenSAML to generate the previous messages and did not read the specs to check if they were right, I'm pretty sure your own implementation wouldn't generate correct messages either...
