Subject: [sca-assembly] [ISSUE 152] Let's discuss

Title: [sca-assembly] [ISSUE 152] Let's discuss

Hi all,

having a good feeling that Siemens concerns expressed in http://www.osoa.org/jira/browse/ASSEMBLY-149 are close to being resolved,

Id like to start discussions around http://www.osoa.org/jira/browse/ASSEMBLY-152 which is about loosening conformance requirements on binding types which MUST be provided.

To summarize our concerns, currently the spec says that a conformant SCA runtime MUST support at least binding.sca and binding.ws.

Siemens is concerned that this will limit usage of SCA runtimes in the Industrial Domain because Web Services  arent often used in automation or embedded systems. Other communication standards like BACnet are relevant there. Forcing runtimes to support WS* will unnecessarily increase their footprint and prevent their usage on embedded devices.

So Siemens proposes to limit the conformance requirement to having to support binding.sca only.

Any thoughts on this? Would it be an acceptable resolution proposal?

Regards,

Philipp
