Folks,
The suggestion of a virtual
conference
for 4 hours each day seems a good compromise. We would all like to
meet in person - and I am sure that
faster progress gets made on difficult issues with a F2F, but it looks
like the
F2F cannot make good progress this
time
due to limited numbers.
I can commit to attending a virtual
conference 7:00 - 11:00 Pacific for the days concerned.
Regarding technology, some of
you will be aware of the LiveMeeting technology that I have used in the
past
for some of the Assembly meetings.
I
can make this available again. It is good for screen sharing and
allows the
pen to move from person to person.
It
does not make excessive demands on communication lines.
Is that Microsoft LiveMeeting you're referring to?
As an alternative, TIBCO has a WebEx account, so I could host a meeting
via WebEx.
I don't know how these two options compare, feature to feature, do you?
-Eric.

I agree that postponing would put our schedule in
jeopardy.
Another option is to have the f2f meeting and make unofficial
decisions;
designate specific time/duration each day during which folks who can't
attend in person will dial in and make decisions during that time.
Looking at the ballot, I'll observe that there are a lot of active
members who won't be able to attend in person. That's not good for
making decisions which won't be reopened. Given this, a virtual f2f
seems like an attractive option. For the timezone issue, we could have
the virtual f2f say from 7am-11am pacific from mon-thursday. Monday was
designated a travel day in any case.
