Subject: NEW ISSUE: The EJB bindings specification should provide explicity statesupport or non-support for Callbacks

I'm forwarding this binding TC email to the SCA-J TC for awareness and
consideration. This TC owns one binding spec, the EJB binding, and I
believe we should also at least consider this issue.

FWIW, a search of the latest EJB binding working draft does not reveal any
references to "callback" (though my memory was that we made statements of
non-support in the spec, apparently we don't). There is a section on
conversations mapped to stateful session beans so I believe that aspect is
covered. Thus the issue:

Raiser: Dave Booz

Target: EJB Binding specification

Description:

At present, the EJB binding spec is completely silent on callbacks as
described in the Assembly specification. My assertion is that each binding
spec is obligated to clearly state what is and is not supported from the
Assembly specification. I don't believe that silence is sufficient due to
the inter-relationship of the various SCA specifications.

The SCA-Bindings TC is considering a similar question for each of the
binding specs owned by that TC.

Proposal:

None at present.

Target:                Web Services Binding specification, JMS
      Binding Specification, JCA Binding Specification

      Description:

At present, it is not clear which, if any, of the Bindings
specifications enable the implementation of two important
features of SCA described in the Assembly specification - namely
      Callback interfaces and Conversational
      interfaces.

Each of the Bindings specifications should explicitly declare if it
is possible to support each of these features.

For each of the Bindings specifications that claim to support either
or both of these features, the specification
should provide a full description of at least one exemplary
implementation of the feature using the Binding
technology described in the specification.  Multiple alternative
implementations are permitted and may be
      added to the specification.

For example, it may be possible to implement Callbacks using
      WS-Addressing capabilities with Web services.
If so, and example, showing the use of appropriate features of
      WS-Addressing and other relevant WS-*
capabilities should be added to the specification.   If an
alternative exists using (say) WS-Context, then an
example based on that technology can also be provided.

      Proposal:

      None at present.
