Subject: Re: [search-ws] Fw: Advice needed on federated search
Ray - In the geospatial community, there has been considerable discussion, research, and implementation of federated catalogues that federated search. This is especially true in the earth observation community (which DoD should have a great interest in). Numerous references including: http://ceos.org/meetings/wgiss22/Tech-and-Services/ICS/HMA-Catalogue-Update-for-WGISS.ppt http://www.inspire-geoportal.eu/catalogues.htm http://portal.opengeospatial.org/files/?artifact_id=22111 ftp://ftp.cordis.europa.eu/pub/ist/docs/environment/catalog-service-interoperability_en.pdf http://www.ec-gis.org/Workshops/13ec-gis/presentations/5_sdi_technology_III_Voges_4.pdf http://www.ogcnetwork.net/node/304 I know that these are quite a few links :-) Also, they should check out what the Canadian community has done as part of the Canadian Geospatial Data infrastructure. They have implemented a federated (national) distributed catalogue and search capability based on Z39.50 Hope this helps!
