Subject: RE: reminder: OASIS Security Services TC

Title: RE: reminder: OASIS Security Services TC
>>1) what if any standard you will be basing this work on?<<

The OASIS TC was originally started by Netegrity and its partners, who created (co-authored) the S2ML specification (www.s2ml.org) Many people have already registered, some with substantial contributions that will be discussed in the TC, together with S2ML.

>> 2) how will this work be different than the W3C XML security work scheduled to start after the first of the year?<<

I'm not familiar with what the W3C XML security work is about. The OASIS TC is the place where authentication and authorization issues will be discussed, with possible extensions to other security domains. One of the goals is to be able to interface with other standards and protocols (SOAP, ebXML, and soon languages such as HKMS, etc.)

>>3) Why is OASIS starting an XML based security TC when the OASIS sponsored ebXML initiative is already developing a security specification?<<

ebXML and the OASIS XML-based security TC are complementary. Indeed, the standard that we are working toward in the TC will include a binding to ebXML. Also, ebXML co-creators are registered in our TC, in particular to work on binding issues.

Best regards,

Karl and Marc,

To help me decide on having my security expert participate in this TC,  could you please explain:

        1) what if any standard you will be basing this work on?
        2) how will this work be different than the W3C XML security work scheduled to start after the first of the year?

        3) Why is OASIS starting an XML based security TC when the OASIS sponsored ebXML initiative is already developing a security specification?

Thanks,

Mark

Subject: reminder: OASIS Security Services TC

OASIS members:

On 27 November I sent out a call for participation for the new OASIS
XML-Based Security Services Technical Committee (TC). This email is a
reminder of that call for participation.

In order for you to become a member of this TC you must send the TC chair,
Marc Chanliau (mchanliau@netegrity.com), an email stating your intention to
participate (please CC me) 15 days before the first meeting, *and* you must
attend the first meeting which is scheduled for 9 January 2001. Details of
the meeting (call-in info, agenda, etc.) will be sent to those who
pre-register. As 15 days before the first meeting is 25 December I suggest
you send in your message before the holiday break. You should also subscribe
to the TC discussion list by sending a message to
security-services-request@lists.oasis-open.org with the word "subscribe" as
the body of the message.

Note that to be qualified to become a member of the TC you must be an
employee of an OASIS member organization, or you must be an OASIS individual
member.

If you are an OASIS member, and wish to view the dicsussions of the TC but
do not wish to become a member of the TC, you may subscribe to the TC
discussion list as described above. You should not send comments to this
list (only TC members should post to the list), but you may comment on the
work of the TC by sending your commments to
security-services-comment@lists.oasis-open.org.

If you are not an OASIS member but wish to view the discussions of the TC
you may view the discussion list archives at
http://lists.oasis-open.org/archives/security-services/ You may comment on
the work of the TC by sending your commments to
security-services-comment@lists.oasis-open.org.
