The goal was to reference the headerless data format that contained the raw compressed data and NOT to reference gzip or any other wrapper around the DEFLATE algorithm. 1950 references the header format, not the data compression scheme. Or am I wrong? If people used gzip, they got it wrong, I can definitely say that much. If your data has the GZIP headers around it, it should not interop. The headers apply to sticking filename information and such around thew stream, but this is raw data. -- Scott
