I think the table works okay.  It's actually an improvement over the 
tightly packed and nested lists, for its purpose (status and links 
can change, but people can get to know where in the table their 
"item of interest" is).  I sympathize with you on the editing part. 
  What I do is copy out the whole thing to an editor I like better 
(TextPad is good when it knows you're editing HTML), then replace it 
with new stuff when I'm done editing.
