I agree that analyzing real world effects is beneficial in drawing boundary lines for your stake holders. It is also beneficial to analyze points of action for those real world effects. However, this changes my initial view of a SOA point of action being an instance of a service involved in an interaction that results in a change to shared state. For example, the point of action could be some environmental effect.
