Hi
Chris,
Thanks for the info
regarding the OASIS SOA Ref model and the work of the
Committee.
I don’t have time for
a full response at this time but it suffices to say that our work is actually
very compatible and complementary to the work of the Committee. I found
your reference model to be very well conceived and also useful in explaining
the concepts of services. I will adopt some of the key terms you have so
well defined in our work.
Most importantly, we
are proving your premise that service orientation can be applied to business
capabilities as a replacement for process modeling as both a reference model
and industry tailored reference architectures that can be customized for a
given enterprise given their service oriented business model. In fact,
we use service orientation in all four views of our EA framework.
Hopefully you can
tune in the webinar as I will talking to and demonstrating the usefulness of
service function modeling. We see it a missing and critical front-end
requirement to effective SOA planning and deployment.
Looking forward to
further opportunities to share views on this.
Regards,
Art
Caston

Mr.
Caston,
As a
member of the OASIS SOA Reference Model Technical Committee, I wanted to
introduce you to the SOA reference model we have created which is
currently out for public review.
We have
been working on this over the last year, and believe that you will find it
useful to your work. We would also be interested in any feedback you may
have. Additionally, we have formed a sub committee which is currently
working on a reference architecture using the RM for its
basis.
You can
get the public review draft at the following link:

Not
aware but it would be good to contact them and explain what we have done and
offer it if it is use to them.

Service
Oriented Reference Models
Ever tried to
get your enterprise to agree on a common process model? The
only thing common is the response "Gee, but we are
different!" Art Caston addresses this challenge by
using Service Function Modeling to create an enterprise
operational reference model. These comprehensive
models break down the typical organizational silos by using
service relationships to create a cross function value
network. Service functions are essential operational
capabilities. They are defined to be independent of
organization and of process - including how a function is
performed, by whom or where and even how much automation is
involved.
Art will
illustrate this subject using the Proact Business
Transformation Toolkit. as implemented in Metis. from Troux
Technologies. Proact Business Transformation Inc. has
extensive experience is building enterprise reference models
for many industries and has created a valuable library of
generic functional models with information subjects and
reference systems. These integrated components can be
used to quickly customize a service-oriented reference model
for a specific enterprise based on some key factors that
define its business.
In this session, you will learn:
- How
to get your organization to agree on an operational
reference model.
- How
to implement a Service Function Modeling
approach.
- Using
the Proact Business Transformation Toolkit to rapidly
frame a cross-function value network,
and
- Overcoming
common challenges - tips, techniques and best
practices.
