Subject: RE: [tgf] Fw: Draft PAS 182, Smary city concept model - Deadline for comments: Fri 16 May 2014 (public consultation) - Review Panel

Hi All,

Chris has already pointed out a link between this document and PAS 181:-

“………think there would be real benefit in positioning PAS182 explicitly as a tool to help with implementation of the Technology and Data Asset Management strategy recommended in PAS 181.  That strategy – and in particular, the Guidance Note B13 on ‘Resources mapping and management’ - makes clear that ‘cities need to identify governance processes which enable technology and digital assets to be managed as city-wide resources’, and gives advice on how to do this.  One of the key enablers of doing so is clearly an ability to describe data assets in a common way – which at a top-level at least is what PAS182 aims to facilitate.  So I think that both documents would be strengthened if there was a clear recognition that PAS182 is a tool for helping to deliver PAS181, and PAS181 sets out all the broader actions that are needed in a city alongside PAS182.   As it stands, there is just an initial reference to PAS181 as one of a suite of related documents, with no explicit explanation of the linkages.”

If there are any more of these, I think it would be worthwhile highlighting them to increase the synergy between the documents and thus links to the TGF. Also, I think it is worth raising any concerns that might arise with implementation. For example, privacy/data protection/legislation/gateways  might mean that data that could be usefully linked may not be readily usable in that manner.

Regards

Nig
