Subject: Re: OASIS TC Call For Participation: Topic Maps Published Subjects

Hello all

Now that the official process is launched, let me add a few words to this
Call for Participation.

First to address a round of thanks to ...
... Karl Best and Scott McGrath who have welcomed and facilitated this
initiative in OASIS framework,
... Eric Freese who has facilitated the smooth liaison between TopicMaps.Org
people and OASIS people,
... Murray Altheim, Hans Holger Rath and Steve Pepper who have cheerfully
and instantly jumped into that project,
... the "Round Table Knights" gathered in Montréal on August 18th, who
kindly nominated me as chair of that TC,
... and in general all the cheerful community of Topic Maps gurus, Ontology
addicts, XML hackers, Semantic Web freaks and various Knowledge engineers
that helped me through various forums, events, private contacts and
thoughtful papers to figure out that Published Subjects (alias PSI) were a
sufficiently important open field to be seriously ploughed.

So let's keep the good work going. The Charter that you have read (or can
read below) has been (on purpose) made short and non-verbose. I should
release ASAP a document setting more of the historical and technical
background, and pending issues that IMO this TC should tackle. Technical
requirements permitting, I hope to be able to use the official TC page
hosted by OASIS at
http://www.oasis-open.org/committees/tm-pubsubj/index.shtml

There is not much there still, but bookmark that address for future
developments. Meanwhile, for those who would like to know more on how I
consider the "subject", my paper and slides presentation at Extreme Markup
2001 are available at
http://www.mondeca.com/site/products/bernard/extreme2001.htm

You have about a month from now to figure if you want to join. Please feel
free to bring up comments and questions. Note that I cc this first message
to the general topic maps list, but won't do it anymore in the future. So if
you want to stay tuned, don't forget to suscribe to tm-pubsubj ... (see
below again)

Note a little typo in the projected dates. Second deliverable is scheduled
for March 2002 of course (not 2001)

Cheers

Bernard
