Yes, I would really like this to move forward as soon as possible but also do it thoughtfully, which was missing from my original post (sorry Murray). I was under the impression that the TM pubsubj TC was going to tackle the language and country PSIs and other generic ones and that subcommittees could possibly be set up to handle PSIs in the category of "vertical industry" types. We still have two prospective members from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations on our "Members" page. They might possibly be interested in a subcommittee like this or a new TC? In http://www.oasis-open.org/committees/tm-pubsubj/docs/questions.htm we have 2. How to ... ? ... from Topic Maps TC viewpoint ... Q2 ... "Eat our dog food" by publishing and maintaining a set of core generic PSIs -- Define core generic PSI set - generic topic, association and role types, countries, languages -- Make it consistent with standard or widely-used general vocabularies, classifications and ontologies I think I rather like the idea of new TC to handle this. The new TC can the provide the "dog food" to be used by TM Pubsubj TC. If one TC can use examples from another TC, then a new TC is my choice. This would involved more meetings though. Maybe this is the way to go, to get things done. >It could make sense to extend the charter of PubSubj to encompass these >two, on the grounds that they already have some kind of semi-official >existence and are themselves establishing a precedent for other sets of >published subjects. I was not in Orlando, so I may have missed something about the semi-official existence. Just for clarification, The XTM dtd is now a normative annex of ISO 13250, as far as I understood. Does that include the core PSIs? Does it include language and country PSIs? Since you are worried about a possible competitor, I wondered. I am still not clear about the IP issues. We really do need language and country as precedents for other sets of published subjects. I wanted to start work on others, and region seemed the natural choice. The Dublin core elements are needed; so are others. I am really looking forward to getting the ball rolling. >Of course, this means modifying the existing charter, but that is no more >work than creating a new one for a new TC. > >More important than the form the work should take is that we agree on the >nature of the work.
