Subject: Re: [xtm-wg] A challenge on "the graph"

[murray] > What I'm hoping to see is that an existing graph formalism can be used > to describe the topic maps data model. Four hares have been stared onn this subject: (1) Jack Park posted URLs on precedents; (2) graph theorists are doing research; (3) Eliot suggests UNL; and (4) groves (modulo some grove-centric details...) Personally, I'm leaning toward groves, since (a) property sets have angle brackets, therefore I understand them, (b) property sets are simple and elegant (unlike -- no flames please! -- UML, at least in my experience), (c) groves do describe graphs, and (d) groves seem to meet the node/property desire voiced by some implementors. (Kal?) [murray] > We need a data model in order to describe a processing model. Please elucidate. Hopefully the procedural postings will soon be behind us, and we can get back to technical work... [murray] > Yet there are those who have a difficult time with the W3C infoset > too. Me, for example. S. P.S. There's no reason why documentation of a grove-based graph shouldn't read as appealingly as the Infoset, and the very well-written straw man that Lars put forth. (This is not a slam -- it is not sufficient to have ideas, the ideas must be expressed.) ===== <!-- "To imagine a language is to imagine a form of life." - Ludwig Wittgenstein, Philosophical Investigations --> __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
