[xtm-wg] OASIS status report

I wanted to drop everyone a note on the status of the TopicMaps.Org move to
becoming an OASIS member section.

The member section is set up.  OASIS staff members are contacting the
current XTM participating members about joining OASIS, if they don't already
belong. In addition current OASIS members will be advised of the member
section and given the option to join TopicMaps.Org.  Mailing lists have been
set up using the OASIS list servers.  The addresses will be announced in the
near future.  It does not seem possible to recover the archives from
yahooGroups at this point.  Does anyone have a local copy of the archives
which we could transfer to OASIS?  I have an Outlook Mail folder which has
most of the combined traffic from topicmapmail and XTM-wg.  We might be able
to glean the XTM stuff from it.

Extreme Markup 2001 in Montreal (Aug 14-17) will be the launch of the member
section.  During one of the evenings (possibly Thursday) there will be a
membership event in which new members can come and learn more about
TopicMaps.Org and OASIS.  Anyone who would like more information on joining
OASIS now can contact Scott McGrath - Member Services Manager - email:
scott.mcgrath@oasis-open.org.  We are hoping to also have a press release
sent out during the conference announcing the formation of the member
section.

On Saturday, August 18, there will be a meeting of the member section to do
adminstrivia such as electing officers, charter revisions, future planning
for the group and determining which technical committees need to be formed
and beginning the OASIS TC formation process.

Sunday, August 19, has been reserved as an administrivia overflow day, if
needed (I certainly hope not).  It can also be used for the TCs to begin
formation work such as developing a charter, etc.
