Subject: Proposed TC Answer to Public Comment
Hi TOSCA-teers, Please find the proposed TC answer to the public comment we received a few weeks ago and discussed on the July 17th call. A special word of thanks to Thomas and
Moshe for their substantial input on this response. Thank you for your inquiry regarding TOSCA. Indeed, parameter passing is not supported in TOSCA v1.0. However, there is interest in supporting this capability in TOSCA v1.1. The are two approaches being defined
that will allow users to pass parameters between nodes in a TOSCA topology. One is by using new intrinsic function like get_property or get_attribute that will allow users to map attributes of one node to properties of another node in a template. The second
approach relates to passing inputs and outputs of operations to elements of a TOSCA topology. For each operation, one can declare inputs and outputs – the outputs can be stored into attributes and then passed into other operations (on other node templates)
as inputs. Although nothing is certain, the current plan is for the TOSCA TC to work towards approving a Committee Specification Draft 002 that would include these capabilities. As you know, Committee Specification Drafts
are published in the OASIS document repository and the TOSCA TC will also note the publication on its public page. For your information, this issue is also discussed in JIRA issue TOSCA-178, found at:
https://issues.oasis-open.org/browse/TOSCA-178. We hope you find this response helpful, and welcome further comments.
Thanks, Paul
