Subject: Re: Charter Revision
A couple of questions regarding the charter revision. - The bit about "averting a crisis" at the beginning seems rather narrow and overwrought now, and the description of UBL as a "synthesis of existing XML business libraries" doesn't seem quite right, either. How about: 1. To create a "Universal Business Language" that will standardize common business data structures and allow businesses of all sizes to enjoy the benefits of electronic commerce. (Wordsmithing by email can be quite tedious, so perhaps we should schedule some time in an upcoming CSC meeting to fiddle with this.) - Is it really necessary any more to refer to xCBL? This has been a huge political problem for us right from the beginning. I was willing to bear this burden when we were actually proceeding "by mutually agreed-upon changes to xCBL 3.0," that is, through a procudure of amending the xCBL spec, but we abandoned this idea very early on. Can we drop this? - The deliverables seem rather dated, too. Here's the list from the current UBL brochure: - A set of Naming and Design Rules for the representation of ebXML Business Information Entities (BIEs). - A UBL BIE library in the form of standard XML schema elements for common business data structures such as "party," "address," and "line item." - A set of basic business documents assembled from the BIE library, such as UBL Order, UBL Receipt Advice, and UBL Invoice. - A set of formatting specifications for the rendering of the basic business documents in human-readable form. - In time, a standard context methodology for the automated customization of UBL to fit different business environments. We still need to work in a reference to CCTS, but this list seems to me a better place to start. Jon
